E-Bike Meeting Summary
Meeting with Lakewood Police
On August 25, 2026, a group of residents met with the City of Lakewood Police Department. The discussion was focused on E-Bikes and E-Motorcycles, their differences, and how current laws apply to each category of bike.
Key takeaways:
- There are very few public locations where kids can ride these bikes and be safe, other than in their own yards.
- Many of these electric bikes and motorcycles, depending on the age of the rider, are not legal on Solterra paths, sidewalks and main streets.
- We have attached a listing of what is legal and not legal from Jefferson County and Lakewood. Parents are encouraged to review this list before purchasing an electric bike or motorcycle.
- Damage to Solterra common area property caused by bike activity, off path, should be reported to the police as a property claim of damages.
- Lakewood Police indicated that rule updates are in process.
